Physiotherapy

A physiotherapy session begins with an evaluation that includes a postural assessment. This important step often reveals the hidden elements involved in the appearance of acute pain and even those that might explain chronic pain such as repeated tendinitis, neck pain or recurring lower back pain.

One treatment session incorporates several different physiotherapy approaches that are adapted to fit the needs of each individual. Each client’s needs and progress dictate which approaches and techniques will be used.

Physiotherapist, MScPT

Anne-Marie has been a practicing physiotherapist for 30 years. She also leads the lab for postural assessment, supervising first-year physiotherapy students at the University of Montréal.

The combination of Anne-Marie’s practical experience and teaching is a guiding principle of her practice, allowing her to refine her observations and clinical vision. She is constantly focused on offering the best possible treatment based on the specific, personal needs of her diverse clientele.

Anne-Marie has been a practitioner of tai chi for over 20 years. It helps her maintain a balance through life’s ups and downs. She often incorporates a few tai chi moves into the exercise programs she gives her physiotherapy clients.

Clients appreciate Anne-Marie’s ability to listen attentively and through touch. Since she is extremely comfortable in dispensing her treatments, she is also capable of providing a full human relationship. Her goal is to provide her clients comprehensive monitoring of their situation and to encourage them to keep the energy moving forward through their own post-treatment follow-up. She takes this so much to heart that a session with her is also a teaching session! This leads clients to become aware of their own limits and abilities, so they can take care of themselves after the treatment. Self-care can also become an extremely motivating personal goal.

Global postural re-education

Global postural re-education (GPR) is a type of physiotherapy treatment that consists of a global reading of the body through an assessment of the muscle chains and motor coordination chains. It’s the ideal model to treat both acute and chronic pain as well as scoliosis regardless of its cause.

Combining locally applied physiotherapy techniques (musculoskeletal, myofascial and muscular) with GPR speeds up rehabilitation in the treated area and optimizes the treatment.

Musculoskeletal physiotherapy

The manual aspect of physiotherapy includes a collection of techniques that are applied with the hands directly to joints and muscles. The goal of these techniques is to optimize mobility, thus improving the functional performance of the area being treated.

Musculoskeletal physiotherapy, in combination with global postural re-education, is the main focus of our treatments. But complete rehabilitation cannot be accomplished without a suitable and personalized exercise program. So, getting back to an optimal degree of function, pain-free, is also attainable when you get actively involved.

Sports physiotherapy

Sports practitioners and athletes put greater loads and stress on their muscles and joints, so sports physiotherapy takes this into account to help get the individual back to optimal function. In this case, a more dynamic approach is taken to get the person back to their activities as quickly as possible. The secret to successful sports physiotherapy? Load, volume and intensity.
